CAEI employees planted a thousand trees in the vicinity of San Pedro Bio Energy in San Pedro de Macoris, as part of the company’s sustainability mission.  The objective was to increase the capture of carbon dioxide and thus improve the air quality of the area.  Volunteers from CAEI’s Quality and Environment, Human Resources, and other departments transplanted eucalyptus seedlings, which have high adaptability to the specific soil types in the Dominican Republic.

The team was headed by Alberto Potes, Executive Vice President, and Héctor León, Director of Human Resources.  The event was held during the Reforestation Month in the Dominican Republic and was coordinated by the Quality and Human Resources departments with the technical assistance of CAEI’s Biomass Department.  During the event, CAEI ensured that adequate social distancing was maintained and wearing masks was mandatory.

“At CAEI, we reaffirm our commitment to environmental sustainability, which encourages us to plant alternatives for the country's environmental well-being, through plant varieties that, in their useful life, reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, making us a company committed to the care and preservation of the environment”, said Alberto Potes, Executive Vice President of CAEI.

The CAEI Consortium has an Environmental Management System that allows for the development of the business in a sustainable way.  The Environmental Management System was certified in July 2016 under the ISO 14001 standard and in 2019 it was updated to meet the most recent version of said standard.

Since 2016, the CAEI consortium has also held the Bonsucro and Proterra Sustainability certifications, which requires the company to apply sustainable production systems and ensure production, labor, social and environmental efficiency.
