Central Romana announced it began the process of paying more than RD$2.3 billion to all its independent sugar suppliers for delivering more than 1.1 million short tons of sugarcane that were processed in the Central Romana sugar mill during the 2019-2020 period.

This amount is higher than the amount paid last year to independent sugar suppliers by more than RD$300 million.  It will be provided to around six thousand independent suppliers, many of which have been CRC partners for almost a century.

“We continue to promote a relationship thriving on work and growth in the farms of our sugar suppliers, who remain committed to policies and actions that ensure a sustainable production process meeting all the requirements of the PROTERRA standard,” stated Central Romana in a press release.

Despite the current worldwide crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Central Romana was able to conclude its milling season in July 2020 with production of more than 382,000 short tons of sugar, grinding more than 3.2 million short tons of sugarcane.

Central Romana also announced earlier in July that it had paid RD$953 million in bonuses to all its employees, recognizing their dedication and efforts during this time of national crisis.
