CAEI opens medical clinic in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health

The CAEI Consortium opened a medical clinic in the community of San Felipe, providing primarly-level health care, which will be managed in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health.  The clinic will attend to the medical needs of about a thousand people from 7 sugarcane communities located in the area of the old Angelina sugar mill.The medical center is located in San Felipe and will serve the communities of Amelia, Atilano I and II, Platanito, Cañada del Negro and Santo Ángel.

The office will provide general consultation services on demand, care for pregnant women (pre and postpartum), pediatrics, care for healthy children, care for patients with chronic illness (diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, asthma), minor surgical procedures, family planning, as well as attention to cases of serious diseases such as HIV, tuberculosis and malaria. 

This new medical care center is part of the network of nine other clinics managed by the CAEI Sugarcane Communities Health Program, headed by Dr. Antonio Custodio, under which medical services are provided covering various health disorders, outpatient care, emergencies, tests and referrals to specialized centers.

Welcoming the inauguration of the clinic, Alberto Potes, Executive Vice President, highlighted that CAEI is a responsibly-managed, socially and environmentally certified company where "each and every one of its workers enjoys the best conditions in terms of access to medical services and care in their jobs.”  He pointed out that CAEI has its own five clinics and three managed in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health.

Dr. Custodio stated that with this center and with this alliance with the Ministry of Public Health "we will be able to offer a more opportune service under the global vision of a health management system that seeks to improve the quality of life of our people.  This alliance with the Ministry of Public Health will help improve the quality of life in our communities in the area because they will now have permanent and close access to health services.”

Pedro Claxton, Regional Director of the Ministry of Public Health, as well as David de Jesus García, Provincial Director of Health, attended the opening ceremony on behalf of the government.  The ribbon to inaugurate the center was cut by the mayor of the municipality of Ramón Santana, Santa Cecilia Valdéz.

The clinic will be staffed by doctors and nurses provided by the Ministry of Public Health, as well as medical interns. CAEI will provide the medications prescribed to patients, health promoters who will be present in the area to assist residents with their medical needs and requests, and will help manage day-to-day operations of the center.
